Why Union Membership at Totes is Important
Our current bargaining agreement (aka contract), between totes » ISOTONER and it's hourly employees, represented by the ICWUC/UFCW Local 664-C will expire in April 2012.
The current membership in the Totes Unit of the Union is low. This fact gives the Company the power to dictate the contract negotiations.
This would mean your current wages, benefits, hours, overtime, and seniority rights would be in jeopardy. The Company would have the ability to change all of these things, without concern for how it will affect you and your families.
Many employees have given the excuse that they are protected by the Union whether they are a member or non-member so why should they pay to join? Well it is true that we represent every hourly employee at Totes member or not, but what good will that protection be if we have no power in numbers to back it up?.
Membership in the Union also gives you the right to vote on who will represent you at the negotiation table and gives you the right to voice your opinions about what issues are important to you and what changes you want made to the contract.
Membership is more important now than it ever was before. More members mean a stronger Union that will be able to negotiate the most favorable contract possible for all employees. A stronger Union will carry the power to demand higher wages and better benefits for you and your families. A stronger Union will be more able to ensure that the Company provides for your health, safety, and comfort in the workplace.
